L.A. Belov, Moscow Power Engineering Institute (National Research University), Professor, Ph.D.; belovla@gmail.com
A.S. Kondrashov, Russian Space Systems, JSC, Deputy head of department, Ph.D.; ak-rks@ya.ru
S. V. Petushkov, Russian Space Systems, JSC, Research engineer; sp-rks@ya.ru

The problems of estimating the level of the microwave signals intermodulation distortion in the transmitters of terrestrial and satellite repeaters, base stations and client terminals of the mobile communication are considered. Estimation criteria of these distortions are compared. It is shown that there are substantial differences in quantitative values. The causes of such discrepancies are analyzed. It is shown that it is necessary to consider the probability distribution function of amplified signal amplitude, not its crest factor, when selecting the operating mode of the power amplifier to achieve its maximum efficiency at an acceptable level of intermodulation distortion. Correlation method for measuring intermodulation distortion, which gives more accurate results and requires less resources, is proposed.
Keywords: power amplifier; peak factor; intermodulation distortion; amplitude distribution; amplitude compression; amplitude to phase conversion; correlation.

V.N. Кuleshov, National Research University «Moscow Power Engineering Institute», professor, Dr.Sci. (Tech); vnk37@mail.ru

Results of the operation mode and PM-AM noise investigation of the ring quadrature LC-oscillators with integrating type phase shifting RC-circuits are presented. Disclosure of analytic methods of the oscillators operation mode and PM-AM noise calculation is illustrated by such characteristics calculation for some particular examples of the oscillators. Outcome of these calculations is compared with results of computer simulation in the package ADS.

V. N. Кuleshov, National Research University «Moscow Power Engineering Institute», professor, Dr.Sci. (Tech); vnk37@mail.ru

Results of two different circuits of RC harmonic oscillators comparative study are presented. The first of the oscillators has the Wien bridge in the positive feedback circuit of the differential amplifier. The second one has the double T bridge in the negative feedback circuit of the differential amplifier and an amplitude limiter in the positive feedback circuit. The comparative study has shown that the second oscillator has both lower nonlinear distortions and lower PM noise level. Results of both RC oscillators ADS simulation and results of the oscillator with double T bridge experimental study are also presented.
Keywords: RC-oscillator, Wien bridge, elimination filter, twin T-bridge, phase (PM) noise, nonlinear distortion.
